About The Role

Software Developer - 8 month FTC
Hybrid working - Andover office

We’re looking for a Software Developer to join our Tech community and play a key role in designing, building, testing and maintaining high-quality software products that support our customers, colleagues, and business goals. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on delivering solutions, working collaboratively as part of a cross-functional delivery team. 

Your responsibilities will be: 

Software Delivery
Design, build, test, and maintain software solutions that meet customer, colleague, and business needs.
Translate user stories and acceptance criteria into clear technical tasks and deliverable solutions.
Break down work, assess technical feasibility, and provide realistic estimates.
Produce well-structured, reliable, secure, and maintainable code.

Quality & Technical Standards
Ensure code is well tested, using test-first approaches where appropriate.
Contribute to code reviews, pairing, and constructive technical feedback.
Consider performance, security, scalability, and maintainability as part of day-to-day development.
Apply engineering best practices and follow agreed technology standards.

Collaboration & Ownership
Work closely with developers, quality engineers, product managers, tech leads, platform engineers, and stakeholders to deliver fit-for-purpose solutions.
Communicate progress, risks, blockers, and technical decisions clearly and early.
Take ownership of work from initial understanding through to delivery.
Work collaboratively, supporting shared ownership of outcomes rather than working in isolation.
Show curiosity and willingness to learn when working with unfamiliar technologies, tools, or parts of the system.
Look beyond assigned tasks to identify gaps, risks, dependencies, and opportunities to support the team or improve delivery.
Take a thoughtful problem-solving approach, using documentation, team knowledge, engineering judgement, and appropriate tools to understand problems and shape practical outcomes.

Coaching & Continuous Improvement
Support other developers through coaching, pairing, code reviews, and knowledge sharing.
Share learning and good practice within the team and wider engineering community.
Keep up to date with relevant tools, technologies, and engineering approaches.
Look for opportunities to improve engineering quality, team processes, and delivery effectiveness.

We have a head office in Hampshire, but depending on your role, you’ll be able to enjoy our ‘smart working’ approach This means you can flex when and where you spend your time. For many of us this means day to day work can be handled remotely, but there will also be times when we need to come together in the office to collaborate, attend training sessions, induction, briefings and more. 

About You

Essential requirements:
Strong experience designing, building, testing, and maintaining software in a professional engineering environment.
Hands-on experience with backend development using Go or a similar modern programming language.
Experience with frontend development using React, Next.js, TypeScript, or similar technologies.
Experience building and consuming APIs and working with service-based architectures.
Strong experience writing automated tests as part of day-to-day development, including unit, integration, and API-level testing where appropriate.
Good understanding of software engineering principles, design patterns, and maintainable code practices.
Experience using Git and working with code review practices in a collaborative team.
Understanding of secure development practices, performance considerations, and operational reliability.
Experience working in an Agile delivery team, contributing to planning, estimation, reviews, and retrospectives.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical decisions clearly and work effectively with others.
 
Desirable: 
Commercial experience developing services in Go.
Strong experience with React, Next.js, and TypeScript in production environments.
Experience using CI/CD pipelines and deployment tooling to support safe and reliable delivery.
Familiarity with cloud platforms, containerisation, or infrastructure-as-code tooling.
Experience coaching, pairing, or supporting other developers.
Experience working across multiple systems, services, or technology stacks.
