About The Role

At Simplyhealth, we’re looking for a Director of Underwriting & Pricing to help drive our growth agenda through shaping our customer propositions and creating highly effective pricing strategies with clear alignment to our core purpose; to improve access to healthcare, for the many, for the long term.

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) you’ll provide analysis, diagnostics, insight, challenge and advice for pricing our insured and non-insured portfolio, leading the underwriting function with excellent financial governance, policy design and adherence witha strong understanding of risk.

This is a regulatory approved role as oversight for Simplyhealth’s Chief Underwriting Function (SMF23), with responsibility for the Underwriting Policy and Pricing Strategy you will provide assurance that Simplyhealth is adhering to the approved policy and operating within agreed risk appetites.  To fulfil these duties effectively you will have responsibility for updating policies and the pricing strategy in line with the business evolution, reviewing prices annually, reviewing and approving pricing for large Corporate accounts, working with our product development team in pricing new products and propositions, monitoring underwriting performance monitoring, forecasting and scenario testing.

Please note this role will be home based until further notice due to COVID-19; there may be a requirement to attend meetings at our Hampshire head office in line with government guidelines.

About You

You’ll need to have a background in technical underwriting and insurance pricing at a financial services or general insurance business, having worked both with a strategic and tactical / operational lens. You’ll have experience of engaging senior leaders at underwriting governance committee, board committee level or similar with a pragmatic, solutions oriented approach to working with others with a clear ability to manage the conflicting needs of stakeholders, partnering collaboratively and communicating effectively.

You’ll need to be a positive, can do, commercially oriented leader who understands the importance of transparency and fairness for our customers, is comfortable working with uncertainty and who can balance the challenges of risk and opportunity with a longer term view to deliver sustainable commercial outcomes.

As a PAYE colleague you’ll receive a competitive basic salary plus:

  • £7,200 car allowance
  • 20% discretionary group annual bonus
  • Prorated 36 days holiday (including 8 bank holidays) with an option to buy or sell a further 5 days
